The 2014 American Geophysical Union (AGU) Fall Meeting, will be held December 15-19, 2014.

Session ID: 2884
Session Title: Multiscale hydrological, geochemical, biological response of fissured/karst aquifers

Session Description: In carbonate karst aquifers, fractures and karst features lead to strong surface/subsurface connections. The resulting high degree of heterogeneity means that hydrological, geochemical, and biological reactions occur over a wide range of spatiotemporalscales. Important issues include the role played by karst on the water and sediment balance of surface catchments, regional groundwater flow, contaminant transfer and interaction with the subterranean medium, and response to short and long term climate change. Although investigation of physical and biogeochemical characteristics is essential, multiscale variability must be linked to physical processes: to this end the use of physics-based modeling should be also required. This session solicits abstracts on recent research providing insights into the characterization, understanding or modeling (statistical, lumped, or physics based) of the multiscale hydrological response of fissured/karstic aquifers.
