Symposium T19. Characterization of Karst of the Midwestern U.S.: Problems with Unstable Ground and Groundwater Quality. Samuel V. Panno, Illinois State Geological Survey, s-panno@illinois.edu; Walton R. Kelly, Illinois State Water Survey, wkelly@illinois.edu.

This session will include papers describing methods for characterizing karst areas of the Midwestern US, and problems associated with the formation of cover-collapse sinkholes, cave collapse, and groundwater contamination from point and non-point sources. Sources include contaminants associated with urban and rural environments including road salt, pharmaceuticals and personal care products, animal waste, septic effluent and N-fertilizers.
